I often get asked brand-specific air conditioning questions, like when choosing between Amana vs Goodman air conditioners, which is better? Those of you who have read some of my posts know that I’m a straight shooter, and although we are licensed to install and repair both Amana and Goodman air conditioning units, you can relax because we are NOT Amana distributors. That means this article will be nothing but the absolute truth based on our personal experiences with both. We will push neither Amana or Goodman products on you, but instead examine each based solely on their merits. At the end of the day I can tell you though with absolute certainty that the question of whether you should choose the Amana or Goodman unit should not be the first thing on your mind. That is because no matter how much time you spend researching “Amana vs Goodman air conditioners,” or any other combination of brands that you’ve spent countless hours plugging into google, at the end of the day it doesn’t really matter which you choose if it is not installed properly. “But Tim, aren’t all air conditioning contractors the same?” Well, are all mechanics the same? How about all doctors? No, they aren’t. By far the most important thing that you need to research is your local group of HVAC contractors and who has the experience and reputation to install your system properly. Back to topic – those of you who read our articles on a regular basis, know that we are a small, U.S. Veteran-Owned HVAC company in Southern California, and pride ourselves in giving people honest, straight answers to their questions. So let’s take a look…

So lets take a look at the questions of who is a better fit for you, Amana vs Goodman. Now before I get any further, I am going to let you in on a little industry secret that for whatever reason most HVAC contractors either don’t know or won’t tell you:
- Amana and Goodman are the same company.
No, I’m not joking. Goodman purchased Amana in 1997. In fact, not only are they the same company, but they are manufactured in the same manufacturing plant in Houston, Texas and even come off of the same assembly line. I visited their plant a few years back and saw it for myself. But that does’t mean that they are exactly the same, just like a Toyota and a Lexus aren’t exactly the same (even though certain models may even use the same engine).

- SEER rating of 18 (the higher the better – 18 is pretty good but there are better)

- Two-stage Copeland Ultra-tech scroll compressor (very reliable)

Final opinion on Amana vs Goodman air conditioners.
Both the Amana and the Goodman are superior products. But I will tell you right now that they are pretty much the same only the Goodman is $300 cheaper. I personally would go with the Goodman and actually installed the DSXC18 in my parents’ house last summer. But if you still have your doubts and the name is important to you, then I’d recommend you go with the Amana. I have found out many times in my life that peace-of-mind is worth a lot. I will also beat the dead horse and tell you that it is far more important to choose the right contractor than it is to compare Amana vs Goodman.
Don’t stop your research at Amana vs Goodman, but instead continue to look at the dozens of brands that are out there. If you like Amana and Goodman, then I’d recommend you also take a look at the Carrier Infinity vs Performance series of air conditioners. Carrier is one of my favorite brands and is as reliable as they come.
