Rheem Heating and Cooling Products.

ASM’s Review of Rheem Heating and Cooling – Furnaces: OK;  AC: Not Recommended.

All Systems Mechanical is licensed to install and service all major brands, including Rheem heating and cooling products.  People sometimes ask about Rheem products, and we tell them – if you have your heart set on them, we can certainly install it for you – your happiness is important…but let us talk you out of it.  Rheem has one specific problem with them which we will discuss throughout this page.

History of Rheem Heating and Cooling Products.

The Rheem Manufacturing Company was started in 1925 by California brothers Donald and Richard Rheem.  Throughout the years, the Rheem Company has been involved in a variety of applications, including heating and cooling products, water heaters, pool heaters and refrigeration products.  Oddly enough, they built most of their reputation as a water heater company, but most people know them for their heating and cooling units.  Again, why do they call them “heating and cooling products” instead of “heating and air conditioning” like everybody else?  Your guess is as good as mine.

Pros and Cons of Rheem Heating and Cooling Products.

Rheem Pros

  1. Rheem reputation – Rheem is a well known company, and in that there is some amount of reassurance that they must be doing something right.
  2. Price is affordable.

Rheem Cons

Side View of Rheem “Zig-Zag” Coil

  1. Unique “Zig-Zag” Coil is Problematic – Rheem is the only company that doesn’t use the standard “A-Frame” coils that everyone else does.  Instead, they use a “zig-zag” configuration that, in our experience, is prone to freezing up (usually requiring an AC repair call), difficult to clean properly, and may require premature replacement.

Look, our job isn’t to push one particular company’s product (and be careful of companies that are “factory authorized dealers” because that’s exactly what they do) because we are licensed to install all major brands.  Our job is to keep our customers completely satisfied with their heating and air conditioning systems.  Unfortunately, we can’t recommend Rheem heating and cooling products, but we are experienced in how to repair them.  Instead, we’d recommend you take a look at Carrier Air Conditioning and Heating, Goodman Air Conditioning and Heating, and Day and Night Air Conditioning and Heating products.  If you are in our Southern California service area, give us a call and we’d be happy to help you.  Check our service area below:
