All Systems Mechanical specializes in heating and air conditioning installation and repair, and we are licensed to install all major air conditioning brands, including York. So, what’s the deal with York Air Conditioning and Heating?
How York Air Conditioning and Heating Started.
York started in 1874 (yes, as in 28 years before Willis Carrier invented air conditioning) as a manufacturing company that specialized in ice making machines. They started expanding their refrigeration expertise into the realm of air conditioning in 1914 with a technology they called, “air washing.” They would later apply this technology to become the first company to air condition an entire office building in Fresno, CA in 1924. Other claims to fame for York heating and cooling technology include the Empire State Building, among other high-profile buildings. That being said, we have found them to be right in the middle-of-the-line as far as heating and air conditioning equipment manufacturers; with Goodman, Day and Night and Carrier being our favorites, and Lennox being our least favorite. So, let’s take a look at York technology and see if they are right for you.
Pros and Cons of York Air Conditioning and Heating Equipment.
Pros of York
Cons of York
- Sometimes have a poor logistics chain.
- Mixed reviews (I’d wager that this is due primarily to improper installation).

If you know what any of this means – please let me know. Joking aside, I have never been able to install a York air conditioner or heater without spending at least 10 minutes sticking my nose through a York catalogue for model specifications and features. As you can see, this process could be a bit more user friendly. That being said, they do have a decent reputation in the industry, excluding improper installations. As such, we give them a middle-of-the-road ranking – not the best, but certainly an option to consider for residential use. We typically reserve them for the commercial sector as this is where they shine.
